Handyman in Roseville, CA
Roseville is the biggest city I work in, and its houses span a wider range of ages than anywhere else in my area. Some of the oldest homes in south Placer County are a short drive from neighborhoods that are still under construction.
Homes in Roseville
Old Roseville grew up around the railroad. The town started out as a rail junction in the 1860s, and Union Pacific still runs a major rail yard there. Neighborhoods near downtown, like Los Cerritos, have houses built from the 1910s through the 1950s. That means plaster walls, doors with a dozen coats of paint on them, and plumbing that’s been patched one repair at a time. Small fixes in these houses take more care. Sometimes the honest answer is that it needs a plumber or an electrician, and I’ll tell you so.
Most of Roseville is newer. The typical house in the city dates to the late 1990s, and neighborhoods like Highland Reserve, where building started in 1994, have reached the age when toilet fill valves, faucet cartridges, door weatherstripping and fence boards all come due around the same time.
Sun City Roseville is a 55-and-over community. The work there is mostly about making a house easier to live in: lever handles in place of knobs, brighter fixtures, and fans and lights on high ceilings that nobody should be climbing a ladder to reach. Out west, Westpark and the neighborhoods beyond it are mostly move-in work.

Repairs and improvements
Hands-on repair and improvement work around the house. California limits this side of the business to small jobs: under $1,000 in labor and materials, with no building permit needed. I keep repair jobs under $1000.
Hauling, cleaning and site work
This work isn’t contracting, so the small-job limit doesn’t apply. One couch or a whole-house cleanout, a single unit or a full turnover, one site visit or a series of them.
Straight-up

2-hour minimum for a visit. The same rate for every kind of work I do.

Make the visit count
If your first task takes less than 2 hours, line up a second small task and I’ll tackle it while I’m there.
Small repairs welcome
I keep repair and improvement jobs under $1000—the items that are hard to get on a big contractor’s calendar. Hauling, cleaning and site surveys have no size limit.
